Saw plot:-

John Kramer, a toy factory worker, was dumped by his girlfriend Jill as he was too timid and afraid to make a full commitment to her. John became sick. During a check-up, John was diagnosed with colon cancer, which spread and lead to a frontal lobe tumor which would slowly kill him. After waiting in the hospital, he began to notice many people that seem unappreciative for the life they'd been granted, such as Dr. Lawrence Gordon (John's doctor who had been cheating on his wife), an orderly named Zep Hindle, Paul Stallberg (a man who worked with John in the toy factory who had slashed his wrists for attention), Amanda Young (a drug addict who overdosed on heroin), and Lynn Denlon (a doctor who seemed dead on the inside following the death of her son while cheating on her husband and taking anti-depressants). Utterly depressed by people playing carelessly with the gift of life that John has just been denied, John tried to kill himself by driving himself off a cliff, but survived, gaining a new perspective. John made it a goal to find ways to test people in vicious traps to see if they were deserving of their lives.
John kidnapped his first three victims, Paul, Amanda, and
Mark Rodriguez (a man who claimed to be unable to work due to illness). Paul and Mark failed their tests, and Jigsaw left Dr. Gordon's pen, which he acquired at the hospital, at the scene of Mark's death. Amanda managed to complete her test successfully and escape alive. Amanda and Dr. Gordon were interrogated by the police; Dr. Gordon's alibi proved he was not the "Jigsaw Killer".
Jigsaw, planning the
bathroom trap in an abandoned warehouse downtown, was confronted by Detectives Tapp and Sing, who learned of his base of operations while reviewing the tape he had left for Amanda. Jigsaw distracted the police by activating the trap for an old man named Jeff. During the ensuing chaos, Jigsaw injured Tapp and escaped. Sing saved Jeff, only to be killed by the Quadruple Shotgun trap. Tapp, having led Sing into the warehouse without a search warrant, is dishonorably discharged from the force. Enraged over Sing's death, he became positive Gordon was the Jigsaw Killer.
Amanda was confronted by Jigsaw at her apartment. She agreed to become his apprentice and continue on his life work when he dies. With Amanda's help, Jigsaw kidnapped Lawrence Gordon and
Adam Faulkner (a man Tapp hired to follow and takes pictures of Lawrence). Both of them failed their respective tests, but Lawrence still managed to saw his foot off and leave, looking for help. Zep was killed while being tested, and Adam, now alone, was locked away in the dark bathroom to rot forever. Amanda, shaken with guilt, crept back into the bathroom to put Adam out of his misery by suffocating him.
Jigsaw kidnapped a police informant named
Michael and placed him in a trap, also starting a test for Eric Matthews (a detective known for setting up criminals), by leaving him a message. Jigsaw kidnapped Obi (a man who helped Jigsaw kidnap others), Xavier (a drug dealer), Jonas, Laura, Gus, Addison, and Daniel Matthews, Detective Matthews' son. He put them all in a large, sealed house filled with a deadly nerve gas and traps. With them, he placed Amanda in to keep Daniel alive. Everyone but Amanda and Daniel died in the house. Daniel was placed in a safe in Jigsaw's lair.
Eric Matthews and his SWAT team arrived at Jigsaw's lair, and intended to arrest him before he informed Eric that his son was in the house. Jigsaw told Detective Matthews that all he had to do to get his son back in a safe state is listen to Jigsaw. Eric failed his test and assaulted Jigsaw, nearly killing him. Jigsaw took him to the nerve gas house, where Detective Matthews believed his son to be. There, he found the bathroom in the foundation of the house, and was attacked by Amanda, who knocked him out and chained him to a pipe before closing the door and informing him that she was taking over the role of Jigsaw. Eric managed to break his foot and escape the chain, confronting Amanda in the hallway outside of the bathroom. There, instead of forgiving him and helping him escape, she kicked his broken foot and left him to rot.
Jigsaw's condition worsened, and he was on the verge of death. With the help of Amanda, he began his last tests. Amanda began her own traps, kidnapping
Troy (a man who continued to go back to prison) and Kerry (a detective who studied Jigsaw and his methods), leaving each of them in traps that had no escape. Amanda then kidnapped Jeff Reinhart (a man who had been dwelling on his son's death for the past three years), Lynn, Danica Scott (the only witness to Jeff's son's death), Judge Halden (the judge who presided over Jeff's son's murder), and Timothy Young (the drunk driver who hit Jeff's son), all players in Jigsaw's last test. Lynn was forced to keep Jigsaw alive long enough to see Jeff make it through his series of tests. Amanda began growing jealous. Jeff was forced to wander through a warehouse, finding Danica in a trap of her own. He had the choice to help her, which he tried to do, but failed. Jeff then found Judge Halden in another trap, which Jeff managed to save him from. Lynn began operating on Jigsaw's brain, keeping him alive a bit longer. Jigsaw experienced flash backs of him and a woman. They seemed in love, and it has been speculated that this is his ex-girlfriend Jill. Jeff and Judge Halden found the last trap in the warehouse: Tim, the drunk driver who killed Jeff's son. While trying to save him, Jeff accidentally activated a trap that shot Halden in the head. He also failed to unlock the device in time to save Tim.
Once Jeff had completed his warehouse tests, Jigsaw ordered Amanda to remove Lynn's trap. Amanda refused, and rebelled against Jigsaw, stating that nobody ever learned anything from his traps. She shot Lynn in the stomach just as Jeff left the warehouse and entered Jigsaw's lair. Seeing this, he used his only bullet to shoot Amanda in the neck. Jigsaw informed her that it was another test for her, to see if she could cope with the pressure of carrying on his life's work. It was revealed that Jeff was Lynn's husband.
Amanda bled to death while Jigsaw gave Jeff a choice to either kill him or forgive him. Jeff, thinking he could have it both ways, seemed to truly forgive Jigsaw, but then cut Jigsaw's throat with a circular saw blade, not knowing that if Jigsaw died, Lynn's trap would automatically kill her. Jigsaw played a tape for Jeff, revealing that his daughter was trapped somewhere with a limited air supply. The exits to the warehouse slammed shut as Jigsaw flatlined, and Lynn was killed by her trap, leaving Jeff alone. The tape also revealed that Jeff might have to play another game or series of games if he wants to get his daughter back.

PROGRESS REPORT

Last week we met up and continued with our filming. We managed to get alot done as this time we had all the characters needed in our trailer. We filmed in different locations as well as back where we did before as this was sutiable for our trailer. We finished our log sheets as well and also were able to take some shots of us at work to add to our blog. This time we had all of our props with us as well such as the blood, and the outfits worn by our characters. Overall I think that we got alot done although we found it hard to film with no tripod and mic as usual I think that we got on with what we had to do and gained a useful amount of footage to put into our trailer.

progress report 22/02/07

On thursday the 22 feb 2007 we all decided to meet up in hasnaa's house to finish the final footage. we filmed our last footage , we came up with some many scenes, we did so much work, every member of the group came up with ideas which were really useful and helped us finish our footage.
we took off the news reporter scene we thought it wasn't appropriate with our trailer because we had to use the important scenes which was about the murder.
i filmed some scenes. farah made the blood, valeria was the victim, hasnaa was the killer. me and farah were taking parts filming. we also took some photos to put up on the blog to show other people what we are doing, because we had so many comments to add pictures of our production on the blog.
we filmed valeria with blood and hasnaa trying to kill her, we filmed inside and outside the house,we also filmed some dark scenes to make it look scary.

it was a bit hard for the actors because they had to run and have blood all over them but it was really good, this is one of the best footage that we've done. we are going to put the pictures on the blog as soon as possible.
we are ready for the editing.

Progress Report

As a group we were able to work together and produce some really good pieces of footage. We all met up at Hasnaa's house and pitched suitable ideas together. We decided to forget the news reporter scene as we thought it wasn't relevant enough. I had an active role in playing the victim in which I had to wear fake blood and do many running scenes, in which by the end of it I was very tired and cold as some scenes were filmed outside and we had to re shoot a few. However, it all looks realistic which is therefore good as it shows how much effort we all put into this.
This pic below, was taken when we were rehearsing a scene in which the Victim encounters the Villian..

tomorrow we will be filming, we are hoping to film the final shooting of our production.
we will be reshooting the news reporting scene, because the first it didn't look like at all a news report. we will also be filming Hasnaa's killing the victim which will be either me or Valeria and other scenes we are hoping to finish tomorrow, so that we can start editing after the half-term and that we will be able to fill in the log sheets.
we will be taking parts in filming.

Test Screening Feedback.

Task A:-

For this section, go though all your test screening feedback sheets and come up with an average grade for each aspect of MCCAT (the assessment objectives; what will ultimately determine your grade) based on these returns….

Media Language (A-E)
B

Conventions (A-E)
B

Creativity(A-E)
B

Attention to detail (A-E)
C

Technical Proficiency (A-E)
B

Task B:-

Then make a list of all the positive comments you received on your forms, ideally breaking them down into the different areas the class were asked to concentrate on….

Cinematography?
Good blurred over scenes.
Good aiming and blurry effects work well.
Good close ups.
Good use of camera conventions.

Mise en scene?
Good settings.
Good settings and good use of typical conventions of costumes e.g. the hood and knife.
Good scenery (location.)
Good use of imagination for the different types of shots used in the mise in scene for instance; picking up of the knife and killing etc.

Lighting?
Good lighting
Scenes done at night this follows the typical conventions
Some good lighting – and some good tilts done in the dark when needed
Lighting fits in well with the scenes
Good use of night lighting

Sound?
No sound used to date
Good when used
No sound make an emphasis on the aim of the trailer
When some sound was used it was clear and understandable

Conventions? Matching audience?
Yes, matches the main target audience
Fits in well with the horror / thriller genre
Good conventions

Miscellaneous?
Bit vague on the idea as a whole
More footage needed
Shots in a graveyard
Maybe someone running in a park with lots of trees (too make it seem like a forest)
Re-shot the news (have a more appropriate setting i.e. desk and a computer)

Task C:-

Next, focus on any constructive criticisms you received in the feedback, under the same headings as for the previous sections….

Cinematography?
Some scenes are too blurry
The scenes upstairs could be a bit clearer
Not enough close ups
Could have used a tripod – it seems to be as if the shooting of the house was done with a hand held camera
Needs a larger variety of shots and scenes
A bit too blurry sometimes

Mise en scene?
Need to obtain more scenes
Don’t film one of the scenes on an empty road but in a deserted area to fulfil the typical conventions of a horror/thriller trailer
Use tripod
Some shots are too blurry e.g. the shot of the house
Could have a larger variety of different types of shots
Tv report needs to redone

Lighting?
A bit too dark at times
Poor when she is walking into the room
Not bad

Sound?
Need more sound
Not that good
Needs to add a bit of sound to enable the audience know what is going on
Microphone needed

Conventions? Matching audience?
Improve news report make it seem more real
Looks like a horror/thriller trailer
Some scenes were recorded a bit unsteady

Miscellaneous?
Use more blurry scenes
Obtain more blurry scenes
Get more footage
Fast cuts to
increase tension
Need scary music
Voiceovers
More blurs
Need a microphone for the news reporters’ scene
Don’t read off the paper when providing the news report

Task D:-

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, write up the suggestions and ideas about how to improve and what else could be added…..

What else would you (or the target audience) like to see in this production? (Scenes, sequences?)
Scary music in the background
More blurry scenes to not only create confusion but suspicion
More scenes based on the victim
Scary scenes of the victim’s eyes and of the victims themselves
More cliff hangers
More dialogue
More sounds which are appropriate to the main genre.

Suggestions for post-production / editing (music? Voiceover? Cutaways? Montage? Cross cutting? Titles? Slow motion?)

Scary background music, however it needs to be up to date music
Needs to have a scary voice over which will attract the audience
Need to have montage sequences of the main character getting ready to kill etc
Need to have the main character in slow motion when the main character is running and is about to kill her next victim
There will be one title where it will state the main name of the trailer, it will be red on a black background where from the writing it is dripping the colour red this reinforces the main genre of the trailer and the dripping of red represents blood.

Hasnaa’s progress report (16th February 2007.)

What was achieved?

Managed to shoot the scene where Lamia is reading the news.
Managed to shoot the scene where Valeria is providing another news report at another location.
Managed to get extreme close up of victims’ eyes – as well as a shot of the killers’ eyes.
Obtained a scene where at one point there is an extreme close up of the victims’ eyes then another fast cut of another scene where it is portrayed a knife in the killers’ hand then another shot of the victims’ eyes and a knife sound ‘slashing’ through the air.

Was it the same? Why?
Yes, just like before a lot of consideration had to be put into place.
Some scenes had to be re shot again.

What are the next plans?
The next plans are to get a longer footage.
Consider different types of music.

What was your personal contribution?
Main character.
Filmed some footage.

What was other people’s role in and out of your group?
Farah
– being the camera lady.
Lamia – camera lady, another victim.

What Do You Think Of Our blog???

1. What do you think of our blog ?
What do you particularly like about it ? What's especially impressive ?

What could be improved ? What's missing or could be added ?

2. Based on what you've read on the blog (and maybe seen in test screenings in class) what suggestions do you have regarding what we could do to make our Practical Production really successful ?
What other things could we include in the production ?
How should we go about filming any remaining scenes or editing the footage during post-production (+ suggestions for music, etc.) ?

PROGRESS REPORT

Last week we filmed more scenes, but the scenes need to be reshooted again, the news reporting scene was quiet a bad shot because i wasnt really taking it as a news reporter, i was just reading form the paper, we are going to reshot those scenes as soon possible and do some adjustements that we will get form the test screenings and what they think of our production.
we will also add some other scenes of hasnaa killing the victim and we will show the feeling of the person that is going to get killed by using close ups.
we need the victim and shoot other scenes so we can be able to start edidting after half-term.
we also need to put some pictures to put on our blog.
we have good scenes so far but we need to make some other adjustments.
more filming will be done later on this week...

Lamia
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS WEEK? (Monday 12th February 2007.)

Re shot Lamia’s reporters scene.
Finish filming the news reporter’s scene with a microphone.
Begin to think what other types of scenes are needed.
What music is needed to go with each particular scene, maybe go on to decide what type of editing or effects is needed and is suited with each different type of scene.

Hasnaa.
Hasnaa’s progress report

What was achieved?

Managed to record the news reporter shot.
Everyone had a chance to do some filming.

Was it the same? Why?

No, because when we were doing the scene where we wanted to film the news reporter shot we had no microphone.
There is a lot of noise that can be heard over Lamia’s speaking.

What are the next plans?

To re-shoot all the scenes that didn’t come out right.
To see what scenes we need and don’t need.

What was your personal contribution?

Main character
Post a lot of articles on the blog for instance; research and plans for filming.

PROGRESS REPORT

So far we have begun filming our movie trailer and have gathered a fair amount of footage to get us started. Each person in our group had a role that they had to perform during filming and we all did them correctly. My job was to take part in filming and provide the characters of the trailer with make-up. The look that we were going for our villian was the look of 'Samara' from 'The Ring' 2002, although our intention wasn't to copy the look, we just thought that a mysterious presentation of our villian would be more interesting. I found that I had a good understanding of the various shots and angles that would be interesting to put into our trailer as my movie research helped me to do this. Even though we had some technical difficulties with the tripod and balancing I think by the end of the we all managed to overcome this and get some very useful shots.

Farah
Hasnaa’s progress report.

What was achieved?

We managed to get the types of shot that we wanted for example different shots of me however not revealing my face.
We even managed to get a low angle shot.
We also managed to get a panning shot of the spooky house.
Managed to get shots in the dark and in a spooky place.
After continuous tries we finally managed to get some footage which will contribute to the end product of our horror/thriller trailer.

Was it the same? Why?

§ Yes, everything is what I expected there was a lot of shots which has to be re-shot continuously because me or Lamia was always doing something wrong.
§ I didn’t expect the filming to have taken so long because we spent 3 hours filming 50 seconds of footage.
§ There was nothing that actually went wrong apart from us running out of battery when we reached the last shot.

What are the next plans?

§ The next plans are to continue recording different types of shots.
§ Need to focus more on the different types of shots which we can use, for instance; more high and low angle shots.

What was your personal contribution?

§ As we had a change of plan - because I decided that I wanted to be the main central protagonist my main role was to act.
§ I also posted up our plans for what we were going to do that following week on the blog (finally!!)

What was other people’s role in and out of your group?

Farah – being the camera lady as well as the make up lady.
Lamia – another character
Hasnaa – main character Valeria – provided the group with some ideas

Valeria - Was present for some of the filming

PROGRESS REPORT

This past week we started filming as a group, we were all involved and therefore worked together. We all met up and went to Hasna's house, in which we all filmed various relevant shots of her as the female protagonist. The shots proved really good as it looks realistic for a horror trailer, although filming proved a struggle as the tripod we relied upon was broken, therefore we require one the following week for steady filming. Next week, we will continue to film the shots needed this time using our other characters as well.

Valeria
PROGRESS REPORT

We've started filming on Friday, we filmed many scenes to show to the class on Monday.
On Friday we had many difficulties filming, because we didn't get a tripod, we used a tripod which was broken, but we filmed many scenes.
I helped doing the filming, and finding where to film the scenes, i was giving new ideas for new scenes because we got more ideas when we were filming then when we were drawing the story boards. we added many scenes because we could imagine what is going to happen.
I helped in filming, and finding new scenes and i also had a little role in acting, i acted as a victim.
We hope to get more scenes done
in the next few days.so we can film more scenes and see which one will fit, so we could be ready for the editing.
We didn't use dialogue because we didn't have the microphone.
